Every spring, colonies of subterrainian termites grow and release thousands of winged adults on a single day. As if on a tight schedule, massive numbers of these bugs break out of their underground nests and burst into the air in just a few minutes. The sheer numbers of this emergence are intended to overwhelm the hungry, waiting predators. These bugs are on the menu of many creatures, including birds, ants, dragonflies, lizards and many others. The adults take to the air using their temporary wings, in search of new places to colonize. After a breif flight, they land (or tire and fall to the ground!), shed their wings and search for a mate. The mated pair then begin their own colony. Changes in ground temperature following spring rains seem to trigger these events - usually a warm, sunny day following a period of wet weather. Near the end of the video, a colony of Argentine ants has discovered the "instant lunch" and tries to tackle and drag away as many of the termites as possible before they can fly away. In a few scenes, the white-ish orange worker termites can also be seen, "helping" or perhaps trying to provide some protection to the exiting winged adults. www.MonsterGardens.com - Shows an example of vented air cooled reflectors with an indoor grow room. These guys added a few extras to really bring down the temp. (this room was a mess with one air line snaked through the room to 9 reflectors. We made some helpful suggestions: 3 sep. air lines to Start, with insulated ducting and Heat Shields on the reflectors. These guys upgraded from a 10" max fan on their out take to a 14" (using the 10" as an intake fan). They decided to suck the air through the reflectors out of the room, rather than push air into the reflectors then out. Because they upgrade to a MUCH Larger outtake fan, the air moving through the ducting was under 100 F.(a lot of CFM) . So the heat moving through the fan in the outtake wasn't an issue (possibly causing the fan to fail if over 120F). (Also, this kept any air leaks from seal in a/c hoods leaking out). They decide to use the Stealth Airbox 4+ instead of the Fresh Filter (they had at the end of their once snaked line). The Stealth Airbox 4+ is an inline filter. This allowed them to blow the air through the filter instead of sucking through the fresh filter. Because they had three airline feeding into one airline for the outtake they did not want to have three filters to replace taking up grow room space and costing $. The Stealth could be mounted inline, outside of the grow room, and the removable carbon filters made it easy to replace. The air moved through this filter with very little resistance. Their ...
